With respect to the story
A documentary film needs a different approach from a fiction film. Whereas a fiction film is all about a recreated reality, a documentary film is all about a certain representation of reality. The common denominator in which forms the essential base for both types of production is the story and the translation from story to moving image.
Honest and true
In a documentary film, tears are real, emotions are expressed spontaneously, amazement arises after confusion about a document. The documentary film maker has to take into account different aspects than a fiction filmmaker. Think of, for example, the sensitivity of certain documents and the emotional charge certain pieces carry.
